Ohio- He's a former porn addict and born-again Christian who's on a crusade against the adult-entertainment industry. She's a former dancer and strip-club owner with a psychology degree who runs a national organization of adult-club executives. Phil Burress and Angelina Spencer, architects of radically different philosophies and agendas, are on a collision course. Both are scrambling for the high ground in what promises to be a short but fierce referendum campaign on Ohio's strip-club law. The fight will culminate in a statewide vote Nov. 6, assuming that backers have enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. The campaign will be well-financed -- attracting out-of-state dollars on both sides -- and closely watched nationally by political, business, religious and First Amendment observers.The battleground will span religion, morals, economics, local control and freedom of expression.
The adversaries:• Citizens for Community Values, Burress' group, successfully mounted a 2004 campaign to pass an Ohio constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. The organization has been criticized for refusing to reveal the source of millions of dollars in donations. • Citizens for Community Standards, Spencer's team, is backed by high-octane Ohio lobbyists and deep-pocketed club owners. Some circulators used deceptive tactics in gathering signatures for its referendum petition. Neil S. Clark, an influential Columbus lobbyist and veteran of 28 years dealing with state government, labeled it "the most complex issue I've ever been involved with." He represents the Buckeye Association of Club Executives. "The question is, 'Can we convince the public that the framers of the Ohio and U.S. Constitutions didn't want to legislate morality?'
"The referendum would decide the fate of Senate Bill 16, the Community Defense Act, passed in June by the General Assembly. The law enacted a "no touch" rule for dancers in strip clubs and clamped a midnight closing time on adult-oriented businesses, including bookstores, peep shows and massage parlors. Burress and his Cincinnati-based conservative Christian group are vigorously campaigning to preserve the law. They took the issue to the legislature this year through their own petition drive. It was approved by the Republican-controlled General Assembly, and Gov. Ted Strickland allowed it to take effect without his signature. However, opponents gathered enough signatures to put it on hold pending the outcome of the referendum. Burress said adult clubs, movies and pornography increase crime, reduce property values, speed moral decay and have a harmful secondhand effect on children. But his personal opposition runs deeper because of a past 25-year addiction to pornography that he said contributed to two divorces.
"I know the devastation personally that the sex industry can cause," said Burress, 65. "When I went through all the problems, I was one of them. That's the proof that I can present of what this does to a person."
Spencer, 40, was born in Sandusky and became a dancer in men's clubs after tiring of dead-end minimum-wage jobs. She eventually became owner of the Penthouse Club in Cleveland, which she later sold to Hustler publisher Larry Flynt. Along the way, she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ursuline College in the Cleveland suburb of Pepper Pike. Now living in Naples, Fla., Spencer is executive director of the Association of Club Executives. Spencer accused Burress and company of spiritual hypocrisy. "What they want is a utopian return to the Beaver Cleaver era of the 1950s, a time when there were no women's rights." She said her years as a dancer and club owner were "the most liberating and empowering experience I've ever had."
But flashy dancers and clubs won't be the focus of the repeal campaign.
"This is about the First Amendment," Spencer said. "Adult entertainment is in the front line for freedom. What starts in adult entertainment will trickle down in other forms of media and art." Sandy Theis, spokeswoman for the repeal campaign and a former Columbus bureau chief for The Plain Dealer of Cleveland, said polling shows that the more people know about the strip-club law, the less they like it. "When people hear about this no-touch rule -- if you touch a dancer on the head or the elbow or the toe, you can go to jail for 30 days -- they're astonished."
Jeff Ortega, spokesman for Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, said Citizens for Community Standards submitted a petition containing 382,508 signatures; at least 241,366 valid signatures from at least 44 counties are needed. He said he expects to have help from two influential national organizations -- Focus on the Family, which is led by Dr. James Dobson, and the American Family Association.
In addition, about 2 million inserts will be distributed in church bulletins, and his organization will question candidates on the fall ballot about the issue and post responses on its Web site, ohioelectioncentral.com.

Bryan was under criminal investigation for allegedly having sexual relationships with three females in his home - two of them his teenage adopted daughters. The 56-year-old's body was discovered by a reporter for the St. Petersburg Times who went to Floral City to talk to Bryan. The Times reported he was slumped over in a golf cart inside his garage. A still running lawn mower was parked nearby. St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker issued a statement through a spokesperson saying "My thoughts and prayers are with the Bryan family tonight."
Councilman Earnest Williams told The Associated Press on Friday evening that he was shocked by Bryan's passing. "I was very surprised and amazed," Williams said. "He was always willing to help out other folks. It's just a sad day for everyone involved." In a resignation letter released to the media earlier Friday, Bryan wrote, "I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the citizens of this great community for their confidence in me to represent them. It has been a pleasure to work with one of this city's finest Mayors, and extremely effective City Council, and a truly great city staff."
According to court sources, a female who used to be in the Bryan home - who is now an adult - came forward claiming she had a sexual relationship with him that began when she was still a minor. She also claimed Bryan had sex with his two adopted teenage daughters. Bryan claimed in court that the relationship with the older girl took place after she became an adult - and was consensual. He denied having any sexual relationship with the two younger girls. According to a bio on the St. Petersburg city website, Bryan was married with three grown children and two school-aged children. Bryan was first elected to the District 2 Council seat in 2001, and re-elected in 2005. Before seeking office, he retired from his own business Bryan Homes - which has built over 300 homes in the St. Petersburg area.

Florida- Boynton Beach police arrested a strip club owner and seven others Friday night after an undercover operation into sex and drugs at the club. The Police Department's Community Action Team conducted surveillance at Platinum Gold, 3675 S. Federal Highway, for more than a month. Dancers allegedly kept drugs in their lockers and sold them, with a chunk of the profits going to owner Norman Goddard, 53, of Boca Raton, police said. Dancers also paid Goddard a portion of the $300 they would charge to have sex in the champagne room, said Sgt. John Bonafair, of the CAT. If Goddard saw the dancers engaged in sex acts with men on the couches he would get angry because they weren't paying the $300 entry fee to the private room, Bonafair said. "Then they would do whatever you wanted based on any additional moneys," he said. "When we turned over the couches, it was littered with used condoms and condom wrappers."
Bonafair said there was also evidence of drug use in the private room. The club has long been known in the neighborhood for sex and drug activity that fueled robberies, shootings and drug trafficking in the area, Bonafair said. This year's investigation, dubbed Operation Southern Comfort, stemmed from community complaints, police said. During an undercover investigation, one officer was solicited for sex, police said. Police were not able to shut the club down. The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking to have the state seize the club's liquor license, worth an estimated $250,000. It can then be auctioned off by the city. Police seized $12,000 and two vehicles and expect to seize three more vehicles and make more drug arrests.
Arrested Friday were Goddard, charged with drug trafficking and keeping a house of ill fame and deriving the support from proceeds of prostitution. In 1984, he was convicted on a drug trafficking charge, state records show. Also arrested on drug charges Friday were club disk jockey James Pankraz, 24, of Lake Worth, who has previous drug arrests; Jean Blain, 36, of Delray Beach; Joshua Ousley, 18, no address; Katie White, 22, of Stuart; Christopher Frynkewicz, 24, of Boynton Beach; and a 17-year-old girl. Melinda Ventre, 23, of Pembroke Pines, was arrested on drug charges and solicitation of prostitution. "It was successful and we got our point across," Bonafair said.

The federal government's move is its latest attempt to extract $17 million in court-ordered fines, forfeitures and settlements from Rizzolo, who received a 366-day prison sentence after pleading guilty last year to tax evasion. The seizure, which enables the government to sell the property or collect rent from it, was approved in an order signed this month by U.S. District Judge Philip Pro.
Rizzolo became the club's majority owner two years after his father bought it in 1984. Over time he transformed the small operation into a 26,000-square-foot business with 1,500 dancers and monthly gross sales of $800,000 to $1 million. He estimated that the business attracted 600,000 to 700,000 customers a year. As the cash rolled in Rizzolo became a major political contributor. But law enforcement authorities long alleged that he and some of his employees had ties to reputed mobsters. And the rough treatment some of Rizzolo's customers received generated negative headlines over the years.
The biggest of those centered on customer Kirk Henry, who was paralyzed as the result of an altercation at the club in 2001. He sued Rizzolo and was awarded $10 million, still unpaid. The government's seizure of the club, which was closed last month when the Las Vegas City Council revoked its liquor license after a proposed sale fell through, came as welcome news to neighboring businessman "Buffalo" Jim Barrier, a repair shop owner and wrestling promoter who has a pending $1 million harassment lawsuit against Rizzolo ."I knew it was coming," Barrier said of the seizure. "The government had to do it to get the money to pay off the people Rizzolo owes money to, because he doesn't want to pay anybody a dime. So I'm very happy. It's a day of celebration for me."
The government action means an uncertain future for the club, although there are offers to buy it , ranging from $29 million to $34 million. The U.S. attorney's office and Rizzolo 's attorney Anthony Sgro did not return calls Wednesday.

MINNEAPOLIS - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig is a conservative Republican who has voted against gay marriage and opposes hate crimes legislation that would extend special protections to gay and lesbian crime victims. In the wake of Craig's guilty plea on misdemeanor charges stemming from complaints of lewd conduct in a men's restroom at the Minneapolis airport, his political future is in question. The three-term senator, who has represented Idaho in Congress for more than a quarter-century, is up for re-election next year. He hasn't said if he will run for a fourth term in 2008 and was expected to announce his plans this fall. A spokesman, Sidney Smith, was uncertain late Monday if Craig's guilty plea would affect his re-election plans. "It's too early to talk about anything about that," Smith said. A political science professor in Idaho said Craig's political future was in jeopardy. And a spokesman for the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, Hannah August, said Craig's guilty plea "has given Americans another reason not to vote Republican" next year.
The married Craig, 62, has faced rumors about his sexuality since the 1980s, but allegations that he has engaged in gay sex have never been substantiated. Craig has denied the assertions, which he calls ridiculous. The arrest changes that dynamic, said Jasper LiCalzi, a political science professor at Albertson College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho. He cited the House page scandal that drove Florida Rep. Mark Foley from office. "There's a chance that he'll resign over this," LiCalzi said. "With the pressure on the Republican Party, he could be pressured to resign. If they think this is going to be something that's the same as Mark Foley - the sort of 'drip, drip, drip, there's more information that's going to come out' - they may try to push him out." Already Craig has stepped down from a prominent role with Mitt Romney 's presidential campaign. He had been one of Romney's top Senate supporters, serving as a Senate liaison for the campaign since February. "He did not want to be a distraction and we accept his decision," said Matt Rhoades, a Romney campaign spokesman.
According to a Hennepin County, Minn., court docket, Craig pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge on Aug. 8, with the court dismissing a charge of gross misdemeanor interference to privacy. The court docket said Craig paid $575 in fines and fees and was put on unsupervised probation for a year. A sentence of 10 days in the county workhouse was stayed. Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, which first reported the case, said on its Web site Monday that Craig was arrested June 11 by a plainclothes officer investigating complaints of lewd conduct in a men's restroom at the airport. Craig said in a statement issued by his office Monday that he was not involved in any inappropriate conduct. "At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions," he said. "I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."

The adult film industry plans to challenge the new rule as a violation of the First Amendment, said Paul Cambria, a lawyer for Hustler and other adult film companies. He sees it as a way to harass legitimate stag-film producers. "If they can't get you for obscenity, they'll get you for violating record-keeping," he said. Such a violation would carry a five-year penalty.
The proposed rule would require porn producers to give the title of the video or magazine, or the Web address where the actor appears. The Department of Justice has shown some sensitivity for the performers' privacy, however. All information not essential to proving their age and identity, like phone numbers and addresses, can be withheld. Distributors of foreign pornography aren't off the hook - they must still produce a copy of the foreign actor's identification card. The department estimates that there are 500,000 Web sites, 200 DVD producers and 5,000 businesses nationwide that would be subject to the new rule.
The department did not respond to requests for comment, but in its proposal suggested that the benefits outweighed any negative impact on the porn industry. "The benefit of the rule is that children will be better protected from exploitation in the production of visual depictions of sexually explicit conduct by ensuring that only those who are at least 18 years of age perform in such depictions. The costs to the industry include slightly higher record-keeping costs," the agency argued.

& now, Sugar Bares (The Old "Lost Dimensions") had a shooting & a killing there in recent weeks.
Can this shit get any worse?!
Will this affect other strip clubs in the area?

Amsterdam [The Guardian]- I meet Sylvia Kristel – always "Emmanuelle", even after all these years – at a bar in Amsterdam. She is there when I arrive, wearing glasses, a scarf around her neck, sitting quietly at a table reading a newspaper. Am I disappointed that she isn't, instead, enthroned on a wicker chair wearing nothing beyond a string of pearls and, most peculiarly, knee-length socks teamed with ankle boots? No. That would be embarrassing. I introduce myself.
She is 55 now, pretty, with lovely skin. "It's genetic. The creams I use are not expensive. Nivea is just as good. Why waste a fortune?" She lives, it turns out, above the bar, in a small rented flat where she paints ( "my last picture was a huge canvas filled with blue roses"), watches American soaps (her favourite is As The World Turns) and cooks on a Monday. "I make a big pot of pasta with vegetables and I stretch it out for the week." We order coffee. We are here, ostensibly, to talk about her autobiography, Undressing Emmanuelle, which takes in everything from her weird childhood through to Emmanuelle and then those cocaine-fuelled, drunken years living with Ian McShane in Hollywood.
I say that the thing I most want to know about Ian is this: did he ever try to sell you any antiques? He did not, she says. "But that programme, Lovejoy, was very successful, no?" They haven't kept in touch. "He's not the kind of man to call and check how you are." There was a lot of anger in him, she says. "His agent once told him that if he were three inches taller he'd have as glittering a career as Sean Connery. That frustrated him. He did not get the parts he deserved." She's not had a great deal of luck with men, as sublime beauties rarely do, and as I should know.
Anyway, even though the title of her autobiography is what it is – hey, a girl has to make a living! – I figure she must be pretty bored of Emmanuelle by now. Christ, it was 33 years ago. What's left to say? But that's never stopped me before and, alas, doesn't stop me now. I tell her I saw Emmanuelle at the Golders Green Odeon when it first came out, which was 1974, which means I must have been 13. It was on as a double bill with the film Percy's Progress which had, as its tagline, "size doesn't count!" even though it so does, but you don't know that at 13, do you?
Both were X-rated so we must have bunked in via the small window in the ladies at the back. (This stunt may still work but a word of warning: the Golders Green Odeon is now an old people's home. Better to know than not.) I say that Emmanuelle was the first erotic film – or erotic anything – my friends and I had ever experienced and it blew us away. We'd never seen it before; had no idea there was even more than one way of doing it. We left so worked up that if we'd brushed up against anything – anything, even a lamppost – we'd have probably all gone off like fire hydrants. Sylvia, is this too much information? She says: "It astonishes me, this interest. When will it come to an end?" Do you mind? "Not really." She can be quite listless. She may be more bored than she makes out but, hey, the girl's got a book to sell!
OK, I say, what do you think it is about Emmanuelle that means people just can't put it down? She thinks it was all about great timing. She says that due to changes in censorship regulations at the time, it was the first sex film to appear in "normal" cinemas rather than to the raincoat brigade in some seedy dive. "In a lot of countries the light went on, and that contributed very much to the success." I say I think it might be something else, too. I tell her I re-watched it for the first time since I was 13 just before coming here today, and what struck me most was not only its gauche innocence – dodgy moustaches; atrocious dubbing; all those wonderfully ad-hoc shagathons ("pass the sugar, and let's have a shag while we're about it") – but also her wonderful freshness and purity. I don't think the film would have got anywhere, I add, if the star had been some regular old porn hand with big tits.
I think, Sylvia, that Sylvia Kristel made that film. She thinks there maybe something in this, yes. She re-watched it a year or so ago because Channel 4 were making a documentary about it. And? "I thought it was charming. Very innocent, like you say. I was struck by how young I looked at the time but I thought I was so adult, that I knew it all and I was going to conquer the world. Amazing. Where did this come from?" She has a son, Arthur, now in his thirties. Has he seen it? "He fell asleep. He thought it very boring." Your mother? "She saw the film when it came on television. She said: 'If they are showing it on television it can't be that bad.' And then she saw it and said: 'Is that all?' I said: 'Mother, have you been imagining the worst for 20 years?' "
Although popularly thought to be French, Sylvia is, in fact, Dutch. She was born in Utrecht where her parents owned and ran The Commerce Hotel, Station Square. Sylvia and her sister, Marianne, were brought up in Room 21, unless the hotel was full, in which case they were shifted, often in the middle of the night, to Room 22, "which was no more than a cubby hole". She says she often used to think: "What if my mother rents room 22. Where will we go then?" Her parents were alcoholics, pretty much. She once counted how many glasses of beer her father, John, put away in a day, and stopped at 40. Her father had been the Dutch clay pigeon shooting champion but, a stubborn man, refused to wear ear protectors and went deaf. When not manning the hotel, he would disappear to the attic to whittle chess figurines. Her mother, Pete, meanwhile, was an emotionally cool woman always at the sherry. Pete? "She comes from the countryside where there is this habit of naming children after a relative, whether it is a man or a woman."
Sylvia had no idea that drink wasn't a feature of everybody's life; that alcohol wasn't like food or water. It was only when she went to boarding school for a spell at 11 that she realised this wasn't so. "On my first night I could not sleep so I asked Sister Assassia for a cognac." I bet that went down well. "She said: 'You must be joking. Three Hail Mary's and a Pater will send you to sleep just as well.' It was the first time I had ever been refused. At the hotel, when I couldn't sleep, I would always serve myself a cognac." She was even practically suckled on booze. " Before I was weaned my mother got me to sleep by putting a cognac-soaked cloth wrapped around a lump of sugar to my lips." Sylvia would eventually have her own drink problems, needless to say.Possibly, the defining moment of her childhood came when she was 16 and something quite staggering happened: her father returned to the hotel one day with a woman in tow whom he introduced as his next wife. He then, quite literally, ejected Pete (Pete!) and the children from the hotel. "It was as if we were staff and he had dismissed us." They moved to a small flat. Her mother went out to work. Sylvia did return to the hotel once but the new wife refused to let her in. I think, in many ways, she has possibly yet to recover from this.
I wonder when she realised she was beautiful. She doesn't know, she says. Then again, she was always looking at herself in the mirror. Her mother thought her horribly vain, as did her grandmother, who would cover the mirrors with newspaper. And what was your grandmother's name? Roger? Dave? " No! Marie!" She thinks she probably had some idea at 17, when a man rushed up to her in the street and said: 'Thank you. Just looking at you has made me happy.'" If you could somehow be reborn, I ask, would you choose to come back as beautiful or not beautiful? Both can dictate a life, after all. Which would you pick? She thinks for a while then says: "I would now rather be very healthy and strong as a horse but it is nice to be attractive." In recent years, her health has not been so good. She's had run-ins with cancer twice (throat, lung). The radiation treatment scorched her neck – hence the scarf – and as for the chemotherapy: "It sends you into the menopause immediately and you put on weight – fast, wow! I've gained 20 pounds easily. I have to go up four flights of stairs to my flat and it is like carrying two suitcases! I am not going to be cast any more for my body, I am sure." She says this matter-of-factly, without any self-pity. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It sometimes feels as if she simply doesn't have enough energy left to muster up any feelings at all.
When she left school she became a secretary, a waitress, then posed for a photographer in Utrecht and became a model. She won two beauty titles: first Miss TV Holland, then Miss TV Europe. She writes in the book that when she was crowned Miss TV Europe Рby Katie Boyle, at a ceremony in London Рher first thought was: "I want my father to see me, to see this exquisite bird he let escape." That is quite sad, I think. I put it to her that maybe she's been looking for her father in her relationships with men ever since. A clich̩, I know, but it doesn't mean it might not be true. After all, her first proper boyfriend, Hugo Claus (father of Arthur) was a Dutch writer who was 24 years her senior. She says: "Was I looking for a father? Maybe in my subconscious I was, but Hugo was not a father figure, he was a great lover. He was older, that is true, but he was very boyish and athletic and did karate every day."Hugo encouraged her to become an actress, and to audition for Emmanuelle. In the book, she describes the audition like this: "I am wearing a lingerie-type dress with delicate shoulder straps; it reaches half way down my thighs. I sit down and smile. I am 20 years old with all the nerve of that age, all the desire to conquer. I take advantage of a boring question about my education to roll my shoulder slowly forward until one strap falls, then the other. I carry on talking. The slightly cold air stiffens my breasts. My apparent relaxation gives the impression that my body is still dressed, although it is right here, in front of them, exposed, naked. The panel is bowled over; some of them even have the tips of their tongues hanging out..." I say that I once did that for a job and you know what? Didn't get anywhere. Thrown out the door, I was. Not a single tongue hung out. She laughs. But such courage, Sylvia! Yes, and you know what? "It was weird, because I am actually quite prudish."
She imagined that Emmanuelle would never be passed by the censors, would never get released, but thought that as it was going to be filmed in Thailand she and Hugo might as well get a free holiday out of it. She says that when it first opened in Paris and she saw the huge queue outside the La Triumph cinema on the Champs-Élysées she was absolutely staggered. Further, it carried on "playing in that same cinema for 13 years". She became a big star. Huge! It was champagne and entourages and Mercedes cars... Did it go to her head? You bet. Her biggest mistake was leaving Hugo for Ian McShane, whom she'd met on the set of The Fifth Musketeer. " That's the dumbest thing I ever did," she says. He offered to take her to Hollywood and she was keen. "I thought Hollywood was waiting for me. It was not." The movies she made there were lacklustre "and I had to fight to keep my clothes on". Her relationship with Ian was volatile. They fought and threw things a lot. They drank and did cocaine.
But, alas, the house still wasn't safe. In 1986 she married Philippe Blot, a dreamer who believed himself to be Orson Welles. He persuaded her to finance his films. One film was so bad it only played for six days and was described by a critic as "the worst film ever made". He left her utterly broke and she had the bailiffs after her for years. "A-list stars now make zillions but my biggest fee was like $300,000... If I had been more prudent and hadn't been partying so much, I guess it would have lasted a bit longer – but what really did me in was Philippe." How does she survive now? She sells a few pictures, she says. And the book may sell well. I ask if she ever feels lonely. "Well, sometimes I think it would be nice..." she says, before drifting off. She then says she has her painting and her soaps and her big pot of pasta and Arthur, who visits regularly. It's not so bad. It's been some life, though, I say. It has, she says. We part on the street outside the bar. I watch her walk away and think how weary she looks, even from the back. That's what I think she is: weary. And that's what I've probably been trying to put my finger on all along.
Emmanuelle first appeared as the nom de plume of Marayat Rollet-Andriane, a French-Asian writer born in 1930s Bangkok. Her 1957 book The Joys of a Woman detailed the sexual exploits of Emmanuelle, the bored housewife of a French diplomat. Rollet-Andriane's book caused a sensation in France and it was banned by De Gaulle's government. Emmanuelle's screen debut came in 1969 with the Italian film Io, Emmanuelle starring Erika Blanc. The film was a flop and its director, Cesare Canevari, would later plumb new depths with the Nazi-exploitation classic Gestapo's Last Orgy. Emmanuelle was also an international hit and has played to an estimated global audience of 300 million. Kristel says the true figure, if videos are taken into account, is closer to 650 million. In France and the US the film was uncut, but British censors balked at scenes of masturbation and explicit sex. In the end, the scene in which Emmanuelle is raped as part of her "sexual education" was the only one to get the chop. In France, posters advertising the film showed Emmanuelle sitting topless in a wicker chair, fingering a string of pearls. The caption read: "At last – a film that won't make you feel bad about feeling good". Emmanuelle's US marketers took a different tack. A trailer screamed: " Twelve million Frenchmen stood in line for it!"In a scene where Emmanuelle climbs on top of her husband during a sex scene, a group of Japanese feminists at a Parisian cinema reportedly rose to their feet and applauded. Western feminists were less impressed.
Kristel sold her interest in Emmanuelle for $150,000, missing out on a share of the film's $26m domestic gross. She was paid just $6,000 for her starring role but negotiated a $100,000 contract for the sequel, Emmanuelle 2. Kristel's last outing as Emmanuelle in Goodbye, Emmanuelle (1977) was only the beginning of the franchise, which has to date spawned more than 60 (mostly unlicensed) spin-offs. They include Emmanuelle Goes Japanese, Emmanuelle: A Hard Look and, out this year, The Inconfessable Orgies of Emmanuelle.The 1978 spoof Carry on Emmannuelle (note the double "*") starred Kenneth Williams as the French ambassador to London. Having lost his libido after landing on a church spire during a parachute jump, his sex-starved wife, Emmannuelle Prevert, seduces a string of VIPs. Scandal ensues (but not hilarity). The Indonesian actress Laura Gemser starred in Emanuelle Nera (Black Emanuelle), an Italian spin-off that itself spawned 10 more films, including Emanuelle in Hell and Emanuelle vs the Cannibals.

Sylvia Kristel, the world's most famous porn star?
Amsterdam [The Guardian]- I meet Sylvia Kristel – always "Emmanuelle", even after all these years – at a bar in Amsterdam. She is there when I arrive, wearing glasses, a scarf around her neck, sitting quietly at a table reading a newspaper. Am I disappointed that she isn't, instead, enthroned on a wicker chair wearing nothing beyond a string of pearls and, most peculiarly, knee-length socks teamed with ankle boots? No. That would be embarrassing. I introduce myself.
She is 55 now, pretty, with lovely skin. "It's genetic. The creams I use are not expensive. Nivea is just as good. Why waste a fortune?" She lives, it turns out, above the bar, in a small rented flat where she paints ( "my last picture was a huge canvas filled with blue roses"), watches American soaps (her favourite is As The World Turns) and cooks on a Monday. "I make a big pot of pasta with vegetables and I stretch it out for the week." We order coffee. We are here, ostensibly, to talk about her autobiography, Undressing Emmanuelle, which takes in everything from her weird childhood through to Emmanuelle and then those cocaine-fuelled, drunken years living with Ian McShane in Hollywood.
I say that the thing I most want to know about Ian is this: did he ever try to sell you any antiques? He did not, she says. "But that programme, Lovejoy, was very successful, no?" They haven't kept in touch. "He's not the kind of man to call and check how you are." There was a lot of anger in him, she says. "His agent once told him that if he were three inches taller he'd have as glittering a career as Sean Connery. That frustrated him. He did not get the parts he deserved." She's not had a great deal of luck with men, as sublime beauties rarely do, and as I should know.
Anyway, even though the title of her autobiography is what it is – hey, a girl has to make a living! – I figure she must be pretty bored of Emmanuelle by now. Christ, it was 33 years ago. What's left to say? But that's never stopped me before and, alas, doesn't stop me now. I tell her I saw Emmanuelle at the Golders Green Odeon when it first came out, which was 1974, which means I must have been 13. It was on as a double bill with the film Percy's Progress which had, as its tagline, "size doesn't count!" even though it so does, but you don't know that at 13, do you?
Both were X-rated so we must have bunked in via the small window in the ladies at the back. (This stunt may still work but a word of warning: the Golders Green Odeon is now an old people's home. Better to know than not.) I say that Emmanuelle was the first erotic film – or erotic anything – my friends and I had ever experienced and it blew us away. We'd never seen it before; had no idea there was even more than one way of doing it. We left so worked up that if we'd brushed up against anything – anything, even a lamppost – we'd have probably all gone off like fire hydrants. Sylvia, is this too much information? She says: "It astonishes me, this interest. When will it come to an end?" Do you mind? "Not really." She can be quite listless. She may be more bored than she makes out but, hey, the girl's got a book to sell!
OK, I say, what do you think it is about Emmanuelle that means people just can't put it down? She thinks it was all about great timing. She says that due to changes in censorship regulations at the time, it was the first sex film to appear in "normal" cinemas rather than to the raincoat brigade in some seedy dive. "In a lot of countries the light went on, and that contributed very much to the success." I say I think it might be something else, too. I tell her I re-watched it for the first time since I was 13 just before coming here today, and what struck me most was not only its gauche innocence – dodgy moustaches; atrocious dubbing; all those wonderfully ad-hoc shagathons ("pass the sugar, and let's have a shag while we're about it") – but also her wonderful freshness and purity. I don't think the film would have got anywhere, I add, if the star had been some regular old porn hand with big tits.
I think, Sylvia, that Sylvia Kristel made that film. She thinks there maybe something in this, yes. She re-watched it a year or so ago because Channel 4 were making a documentary about it. And? "I thought it was charming. Very innocent, like you say. I was struck by how young I looked at the time but I thought I was so adult, that I knew it all and I was going to conquer the world. Amazing. Where did this come from?" She has a son, Arthur, now in his thirties. Has he seen it? "He fell asleep. He thought it very boring." Your mother? "She saw the film when it came on television. She said: 'If they are showing it on television it can't be that bad.' And then she saw it and said: 'Is that all?' I said: 'Mother, have you been imagining the worst for 20 years?' "
Although popularly thought to be French, Sylvia is, in fact, Dutch. She was born in Utrecht where her parents owned and ran The Commerce Hotel, Station Square. Sylvia and her sister, Marianne, were brought up in Room 21, unless the hotel was full, in which case they were shifted, often in the middle of the night, to Room 22, "which was no more than a cubby hole". She says she often used to think: "What if my mother rents room 22. Where will we go then?" Her parents were alcoholics, pretty much. She once counted how many glasses of beer her father, John, put away in a day, and stopped at 40. Her father had been the Dutch clay pigeon shooting champion but, a stubborn man, refused to wear ear protectors and went deaf. When not manning the hotel, he would disappear to the attic to whittle chess figurines. Her mother, Pete, meanwhile, was an emotionally cool woman always at the sherry. Pete? "She comes from the countryside where there is this habit of naming children after a relative, whether it is a man or a woman."
Sylvia had no idea that drink wasn't a feature of everybody's life; that alcohol wasn't like food or water. It was only when she went to boarding school for a spell at 11 that she realised this wasn't so. "On my first night I could not sleep so I asked Sister Assassia for a cognac." I bet that went down well. "She said: 'You must be joking. Three Hail Mary's and a Pater will send you to sleep just as well.' It was the first time I had ever been refused. At the hotel, when I couldn't sleep, I would always serve myself a cognac." She was even practically suckled on booze. " Before I was weaned my mother got me to sleep by putting a cognac-soaked cloth wrapped around a lump of sugar to my lips." Sylvia would eventually have her own drink problems, needless to say.Possibly, the defining moment of her childhood came when she was 16 and something quite staggering happened: her father returned to the hotel one day with a woman in tow whom he introduced as his next wife. He then, quite literally, ejected Pete (Pete!) and the children from the hotel. "It was as if we were staff and he had dismissed us." They moved to a small flat. Her mother went out to work. Sylvia did return to the hotel once but the new wife refused to let her in. I think, in many ways, she has possibly yet to recover from this.
I wonder when she realised she was beautiful. She doesn't know, she says. Then again, she was always looking at herself in the mirror. Her mother thought her horribly vain, as did her grandmother, who would cover the mirrors with newspaper. And what was your grandmother's name? Roger? Dave? " No! Marie!" She thinks she probably had some idea at 17, when a man rushed up to her in the street and said: 'Thank you. Just looking at you has made me happy.'" If you could somehow be reborn, I ask, would you choose to come back as beautiful or not beautiful? Both can dictate a life, after all. Which would you pick? She thinks for a while then says: "I would now rather be very healthy and strong as a horse but it is nice to be attractive." In recent years, her health has not been so good. She's had run-ins with cancer twice (throat, lung). The radiation treatment scorched her neck – hence the scarf – and as for the chemotherapy: "It sends you into the menopause immediately and you put on weight – fast, wow! I've gained 20 pounds easily. I have to go up four flights of stairs to my flat and it is like carrying two suitcases! I am not going to be cast any more for my body, I am sure." She says this matter-of-factly, without any self-pity. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It sometimes feels as if she simply doesn't have enough energy left to muster up any feelings at all.
When she left school she became a secretary, a waitress, then posed for a photographer in Utrecht and became a model. She won two beauty titles: first Miss TV Holland, then Miss TV Europe. She writes in the book that when she was crowned Miss TV Europe Рby Katie Boyle, at a ceremony in London Рher first thought was: "I want my father to see me, to see this exquisite bird he let escape." That is quite sad, I think. I put it to her that maybe she's been looking for her father in her relationships with men ever since. A clich̩, I know, but it doesn't mean it might not be true. After all, her first proper boyfriend, Hugo Claus (father of Arthur) was a Dutch writer who was 24 years her senior. She says: "Was I looking for a father? Maybe in my subconscious I was, but Hugo was not a father figure, he was a great lover. He was older, that is true, but he was very boyish and athletic and did karate every day."Hugo encouraged her to become an actress, and to audition for Emmanuelle. In the book, she describes the audition like this: "I am wearing a lingerie-type dress with delicate shoulder straps; it reaches half way down my thighs. I sit down and smile. I am 20 years old with all the nerve of that age, all the desire to conquer. I take advantage of a boring question about my education to roll my shoulder slowly forward until one strap falls, then the other. I carry on talking. The slightly cold air stiffens my breasts. My apparent relaxation gives the impression that my body is still dressed, although it is right here, in front of them, exposed, naked. The panel is bowled over; some of them even have the tips of their tongues hanging out..." I say that I once did that for a job and you know what? Didn't get anywhere. Thrown out the door, I was. Not a single tongue hung out. She laughs. But such courage, Sylvia! Yes, and you know what? "It was weird, because I am actually quite prudish."
She imagined that Emmanuelle would never be passed by the censors, would never get released, but thought that as it was going to be filmed in Thailand she and Hugo might as well get a free holiday out of it. She says that when it first opened in Paris and she saw the huge queue outside the La Triumph cinema on the Champs-Élysées she was absolutely staggered. Further, it carried on "playing in that same cinema for 13 years". She became a big star. Huge! It was champagne and entourages and Mercedes cars... Did it go to her head? You bet. Her biggest mistake was leaving Hugo for Ian McShane, whom she'd met on the set of The Fifth Musketeer. " That's the dumbest thing I ever did," she says. He offered to take her to Hollywood and she was keen. "I thought Hollywood was waiting for me. It was not." The movies she made there were lacklustre "and I had to fight to keep my clothes on". Her relationship with Ian was volatile. They fought and threw things a lot. They drank and did cocaine.
But, alas, the house still wasn't safe. In 1986 she married Philippe Blot, a dreamer who believed himself to be Orson Welles. He persuaded her to finance his films. One film was so bad it only played for six days and was described by a critic as "the worst film ever made". He left her utterly broke and she had the bailiffs after her for years. "A-list stars now make zillions but my biggest fee was like $300,000... If I had been more prudent and hadn't been partying so much, I guess it would have lasted a bit longer – but what really did me in was Philippe." How does she survive now? She sells a few pictures, she says. And the book may sell well. I ask if she ever feels lonely. "Well, sometimes I think it would be nice..." she says, before drifting off. She then says she has her painting and her soaps and her big pot of pasta and Arthur, who visits regularly. It's not so bad. It's been some life, though, I say. It has, she says. We part on the street outside the bar. I watch her walk away and think how weary she looks, even from the back. That's what I think she is: weary. And that's what I've probably been trying to put my finger on all along.
Emmanuelle first appeared as the nom de plume of Marayat Rollet-Andriane, a French-Asian writer born in 1930s Bangkok. Her 1957 book The Joys of a Woman detailed the sexual exploits of Emmanuelle, the bored housewife of a French diplomat. Rollet-Andriane's book caused a sensation in France and it was banned by De Gaulle's government. Emmanuelle's screen debut came in 1969 with the Italian film Io, Emmanuelle starring Erika Blanc. The film was a flop and its director, Cesare Canevari, would later plumb new depths with the Nazi-exploitation classic Gestapo's Last Orgy. Sylvia Kristel made the role her own with the 1973 release of Emmanuelle, directed by the French former interior designer, Just Jaeckin. De Gaulle's prudery long forgotten, the film played to packed houses in Paris.
Emmanuelle was also an international hit and has played to an estimated global audience of 300 million. Kristel says the true figure, if videos are taken into account, is closer to 650 million. In France and the US the film was uncut, but British censors balked at scenes of masturbation and explicit sex. In the end, the scene in which Emmanuelle is raped as part of her "sexual education" was the only one to get the chop. In France, posters advertising the film showed Emmanuelle sitting topless in a wicker chair, fingering a string of pearls. The caption read: "At last – a film that won't make you feel bad about feeling good". Emmanuelle's US marketers took a different tack. A trailer screamed: " Twelve million Frenchmen stood in line for it!"In a scene where Emmanuelle climbs on top of her husband during a sex scene, a group of Japanese feminists at a Parisian cinema reportedly rose to their feet and applauded. Western feminists were less impressed.
Kristel sold her interest in Emmanuelle for $150,000, missing out on a share of the film's $26m domestic gross. She was paid just $6,000 for her starring role but negotiated a $100,000 contract for the sequel, Emmanuelle 2. Kristel's last outing as Emmanuelle in Goodbye, Emmanuelle (1977) was only the beginning of the franchise, which has to date spawned more than 60 (mostly unlicensed) spin-offs. They include Emmanuelle Goes Japanese, Emmanuelle: A Hard Look and, out this year, The Inconfessable Orgies of Emmanuelle.The 1978 spoof Carry on Emmannuelle (note the double "*") starred Kenneth Williams as the French ambassador to London. Having lost his libido after landing on a church spire during a parachute jump, his sex-starved wife, Emmannuelle Prevert, seduces a string of VIPs. Scandal ensues (but not hilarity). The Indonesian actress Laura Gemser starred in Emanuelle Nera (Black Emanuelle), an Italian spin-off that itself spawned 10 more films, including Emanuelle in Hell and Emanuelle vs the Cannibals.

Can Porn Go Public(ly Traded)?
Porn Valley- [english.ohmynews.com]- Porn isn't going away. While it has become a part of mainstream culture, adult entertainment remains on the public finance sidelines. The business is dominated by small owner-operated companies, obscuring financial details and stifling growth. To grow aggressively, the porn industry needs money, but the business has a long way to go before most companies are large enough even to consider IPOs.
Gentlemen's clubs have demonstrated the strongest performance, with double-digit revenue growth and triple-digit profit gains. Retailers, on the other hand, show flat sales growth while posting double-digit profit growth, and content companies, typically, have lagged. As smaller public companies, listed adult entertainment businesses are subject to wild movements based on small events. A mildly positive press release can send the stock price soaring, and one quarter of substandard revenue growth could send it back the other way. Unusually high P/E ratios result, especially in relation to fantastic (or fantastically dismal) year-over-year earnings changes. The average adult content company, for example, trades at more than 400 times earnings, despite showing revenue declines of more than 60 percent.
Meanwhile, gentlemen's clubs show fantastic earnings growth on average (almost 470 percent) and a sky-high P/E (91.72), but a low average market cap of $51 million means that they still are vulnerable to the whims of investors, especially large shareholders and insiders. Branded product and retail companies appear to be the most stable, mostly likely a result of the $222 million average market capitalization for the sector, which shows a bit more maturity. There is room for porn on public capital markets, but porn itself has to change first. A wave of industry consolidation would have to precede any meaningful adult industry IPO trend. According to Francis Koenig, President and CEO of adult-oriented private equity firm AdultVest, it will take time.
Koenig indicates that gentlemen's clubs have the most potential, because of limited market penetration and the fact that the largest national chains are still private. Following the clubs in Koenig's estimation are diversified adult entertainment companies, such as Adam & Eve (PHE) and Hustler (LFP), which have revenue streams ranging from films to novelty items and licensing deals. In addition to delivering income from multiple sources, diversification shows an operational maturity that would be helpful in public markets. The potential exists, and some companies have the right business models. The problem remains size.
While this has not stopped some adult entertainment companies from going and staying public, it does limit new entries to the stock exchanges. Going public is neither easy nor inexpensive, and the mechanics of listing on an exchange require the support of attorneys, investment bankers and accountants. It is easy for the price tag to reach millions of dollars, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual expenses to comply with stock exchange and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations.
But, there is another way.

Smaller businesses can go public via the Over-the-Counter (OTC) system, which has a more manageable regulatory structure and as a result lower compliance costs. The cost of going public OTC can be as low as US$100,000 up front, with recurring annual fees of tens of thousands of dollars. Payment processing company IBD is traded OTC, attracting capital from public investors without the rigor of formal stock exchanges. IBD is the smallest of the world's publicly traded adult entertainment companies, with US$6.9 million in annual revenues and a market capitalization of US$2.2 million. Given its size, OTC is the ideal venue, as IBD does not meet the revenue minimums of most stock exchanges.
Going public OTC is not without risk. The OTC environment attracts fewer investors, making it less liquid than the exchanges. A good quarter will send the stock price soaring, but disfavor with investors can lead to catastrophic declines. Be prepared for a few tough years at first. Over time, maturing operations, comfort with public capital markets and investor awareness are likely to offer a bit more stability.
Entering public capital markets can be exciting, lucrative and unnerving. Wealth is created and rescinded in minutes, and the pressure to perform is extraordinary. For the adult entertainment business, public capital is on the horizon. The ability to grow eventually will be limited by the availability of capital, and public markets are the only viable long-term solution. You may be able to go to the bank for millions, but you have to go to the public for billions. It will take some time for porn to go public. Consolidation must come first, creating a critical mass that makes the stock exchanges attainable. While OTC is an option, it will not draw the industry as a whole to public investors; the environment is not robust enough. A few big splashes will be necessary to trigger a trend, requiring big companies to go public on exchanges. After a few years of mergers, though, porn will enter the mainstream portfolio; the industry doesn't have a choice.

Girls from Divine Entertainment hosted the car wash on Sunday afternoon in order to raise money for needy children at the hospital. In fact, several of the escorts currently have children admitted at the hospital. “I have a baby in the intensive care unit,” said entertainer Analisa Griffin. “He is 7 weeks old… he was born [prematurely] at two poinds, 11 ounces.”
The escorts organized the car wash, at $10 per vehicle, in order to raise money for parents who can’t pay for their child’s hospital bills. “Sexy women can sell anything, can’t they?” Griffin added. CEDAR RAPIDS - Joseph T. Parrott, 20, is accused of receiving eight lap dances at The Lumberyard II in Cedar Rapids and then not paying for them, court records show. Parrott of West Burlington was at the strip club at 5910 Fourth St. SW around 11 p.m. Saturday and got eight lap dances at $25 a piece from Laurie Stribling, records show. He then failed to pay. Police were called. He was arrested. Prosecutors formally charged him with fifth-degree theft and public intoxication - both simple misdemeanors.+++++

Strip Club Owner on Trial Second Time on Prostie Charges
BOISE, Idaho -- A Boise strip club owner is in court today for the second time to face charges of running a prostitution ring. Christopher Teague was arrested in January on charges of knowingly accepting earnings from a prostitute. Prosecutors say he ran AAA Anytime Escort Service, which they claim was used for prostitution. Teague went on trial for the charges in May, but the trial ended in a hung jury. Lawyers spent the morning selecting a new jury. The trial is expected to last several days.

"It's too early to rule out anything," Columbia police Sgt. Florence McCants said, but McCants said a preliminary investigation didn't show any sign of foul play.

UK Daily Mail June 10, 2007 SHARON CHURCHER in New York and ALAN RIMMERA former British topless model has become the extraordinary obsession of members of America's most illustrious and secretive men's club, which is trying to track her down in time for its 100th anniversary party next month.
The Bohemian Grove Club holds an annual summer camp at which members, who include Henry Kissinger, former President George Bush Senior, Clint Eastwood and Bob Weir, founder member of Sixties rock band the Grateful Dead, debate world politics, perform weird mock Druid ceremonies – and, it turns out, ogle a poster of a blonde in a thong.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that she is one-time Bond girl and 1976 Miss Wales, Sian Adey-Jones, 49, whom we have tracked down to Ibiza.
Having posed for the poster in 1980 at the height of her career as a Page 3 pin-up and appeared in the 1985 007 film A View To A Kill, she now lives on the island with her Italian husband Rocco, son Dylan, 14, and adopted daughter Tallulah, four. She was bemused to learn that some of America's wealthiest men wanted to "honour" her with a black-tie dinner at the club's 2,700-acre forested compound north of San Francisco this summer. Since club rules ban all women except those employed to work at events, they cannot invite Sian herself.
Instead, they want her to send them a "formal greeting" – with a current picture of herself.
Sian said: "I'm flattered to be in the hearts and minds of such important people but my modelling career is in the past now. And, since they are so secretive, how do I know if this will be a nice gentlemen's dinner or men leaping around doing weird and distasteful things in a forest?"
The £5,000-a-year club's strict code bans its 2,300 members from discussing its activities but, speaking on condition of anonymity, the 25 members leading the hunt for Sian assured us that their intentions were honourable. One of them, a California financier, said: "The poster hangs on the outside wall of a cabin in an area of the camp called Skidoo and has become rather famous throughout the club because of the artistic photography and the beauty of the subject. "This summer will be the 100th anniversary, so we thought a black-tie dinner honouring her would be a nice thing to do. The Bohemian Grove Club holds an annual summer camp at which members, who include Henry Kissinger, former President George Bush Senior, Clint Eastwood and Bob Weir, founder member of Sixties rock band the Grateful Dead, debate world politics, perform weird mock Druid ceremonies – and, it turns out, ogle a poster of a blonde in a thong.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that she is one-time Bond girl and 1976 Miss Wales, Sian Adey-Jones, 49, whom we have tracked down to Ibiza.
Having posed for the poster in 1980 at the height of her career as a Page 3 pin-up and appeared in the 1985 007 film A View To A Kill, she now lives on the island with her Italian husband Rocco, son Dylan, 14, and adopted daughter Tallulah, four. She was bemused to learn that some of America's wealthiest men wanted to "honour" her with a black-tie dinner at the club's 2,700-acre forested compound north of San Francisco this summer. Since club rules ban all women except those employed to work at events, they cannot invite Sian herself.
Instead, they want her to send them a "formal greeting" – with a current picture of herself.
Sian said: "I'm flattered to be in the hearts and minds of such important people but my modelling career is in the past now. And, since they are so secretive, how do I know if this will be a nice gentlemen's dinner or men leaping around doing weird and distasteful things in a forest?"
The £5,000-a-year club's strict code bans its 2,300 members from discussing its activities but, speaking on condition of anonymity, the 25 members leading the hunt for Sian assured us that their intentions were honourable. Australian researchers questioned over 1,000 men who had developed prostate cancer and 1,250 who had not about their sexual habits. They found those who had ejaculated the most between the ages of 20 and 50 were the least likely to develop the cancer. The protective effect was greatest while the men were in their 20s. Men who ejaculated more than five times a week were a third less likely to develop prostate cancer later in life.

Previous research has suggested that a high number of sexual partners or a high level of sexual activity increased a man's risk of developing prostate cancer by up to 40%. But the Australian researchers who carried out this study suggest the early work missed the protective effect of ejaculation because it focussed on sexual intercourse, with its associated risk of STIs. Graham Giles, of the Cancer Council Victoria in Melbourne, who led the research team, told New Scientist: "Had we been able to remove ejaculations associated with sexual intercourse, there should have been an even stronger protective effect of ejaculations."
The researchers suggest that ejaculating may prevent carcinogens accumulating in the prostate gland. The prostate provides a fluid into semen during ejaculation that activates sperm and prevents them sticking together. The fluid has high concentrations of substances including potassium, zinc, fructose and citric acid, which are drawn from the bloodstream. But animal studies have shown carcinogens such as 3-methylchloranthrene, found in cigarette smoke, are also concentrated in the prostate.
'Flushing out'
Dr Giles said fewer ejaculations may mean the carcinogens build up. "It's a prostatic stagnation hypothesis. The more you flush the ducts out, the less there is to hang around and damage the cells that line them." A similar connection has been found between breast cancer and breastfeeding, where lactating appeared to "flush out" carcinogens, reduce a woman's risk of the disease, New Scientist reports.
Another theory put forward by the researchers is that ejaculation may induce prostate glands to mature fully, making them less susceptible to carcinogens. Dr Chris Hiley, head of policy and research at the UK's Prostate Cancer Charity, told BBC News Online: "This is a plausible theory." She added: "In the same way the human papillomavirus has been linked to cervical cancer, there is a suggestion that bits of prostate cancer may be related to a sexually transmitted infection earlier in life." Anthony Smith, deputy director of the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University in Melbourne, said the research could affect the kind of lifestyle advice doctors give to patients.

I responded 2 a post on Greensboro City Councilwoman Sandy Carmany's blog she did awhile back when she mentioned X-Associate General Counsel Blair Carr leaving her position & the fight against the city's adult businesses.

Why don't u & the City Council, instead of going after businesses that ARE NOT breaking any laws & go after the 1's that ARE BREAKING THE LAW? U & your group messed up big-time when u had 2 expand where adult businesses could b located awhile back. When u did that, u DIRECTLY ADMITTED that u were unfairly trying 2 close them down because there was NO PLACE they could reasonably locate.
U can't repeal "The Grandfather Clause" because if a church/school/home were 2 open up next 2 an adult business 2day, even though the club/bookstore/etc. might have been there 4 YEARS, THEY would b the 1's not in compliance & would have 2 move, not the church/school/home. That's the main reason the city lost the fight in Federal Court while other cities around the nation were winning.
But I guess this is what I would expect from a city that's spending $$$ trying 2 shut these businesses down & spending upwards of $400,000.00 A YEAR maintaining a PRIVATELY-OWNED PARK Downtown but won't fund/finance/refurbish low-cost housing 4 people who really need it. Instead we have the homeless sleeping out in the parking lot of the shelter...

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson Proposes a strip club district
In the midst of the trial, the judge suggested the parties settle, and a deal is close. The developer has "agreements in principle" with three of four property-owning groups - the Hustler club, businessman Tony George and brothers William and Richard Droe, Wolstein spokeswoman Nancy Lesic said. The city's pledge to create an adult-entertainment district is key to reaching an agreement, city officials said. "We wouldn't be doing this if . . . we weren't completely convinced this transaction was necessary to move the Flats east bank project along," Jackson's chief of staff, Ken Silliman, said Monday.
The City Council must approve the district and its location. Councilman Joe Cimperman, who represents the Flats neighborhood, said he supports the mayor's proposal .Currently, city law requires strip clubs to be no closer than 1,000 feet from parks, schools, churches, libraries and residen tial districts. But the restrictions would not apply to clubs in an adult-entertainment district. The relocation would put Hustler near Diamond Men's Club, an existing club on Fall Street down from the old Crooked River Brewing Co. building, where the city proposes relocating the Hustler Club. The city also must find a place for the Stage 2 strip club, which will move from its Superior Avenue location to make room for a men's homeless shelter. The city has agreed to pay for the relocation. Silliman would not confirm that Stage 2 would move to the new entertainment district, but he said there would be room for another club on the three acres bounded by Center, Fall, Merwin and Simms streets in the Flats.
Diamond club manager Ed Thompson said he likes the idea of an adult-entertainment district because it would be marketable and convenient to convention-goers. But he and other property owners in the area are concerned that adding new clubs might increase parking and traffic problems in the area."We have one major concern, and that's parking," said Joseph Buscemi, owner of State Fish, a wholesale seafood company on the corner of Merwin and Center streets. Fran Geising, the general manager of the Inman mortuary and crematory across the street, said she's also worried that a strip club district would taint the image of nearby businesses. "What will people say: 'Where are you taking grandma?' 'Oh, we're taking her to the adult entertainment district for cremation,' " Geising said. She said Inman would likely move if the council approves the district.
